Monday, February 9, 2016 (L-R) Joe Parisini, Tom Rottenberg standing by Joe's telescope that is set up in the parking area of the Viele House at the Old Davie School Historical Musuem. Joe Parisini "Thanks for making this available to the Florida Citrus Model Train Society Members". On Monday, May 9, 2016, the solar system's smallest, innermost planet resembled a black dot as it passed in front of the Sun. Mercury finished passing over the sun by around 2:45 p.m. Monday afternoon. The cosmic show - which began at 7:12 a.m. EDT – was visible from the eastern US and Canada, as well as Western Europe, Western Africa and most of South America. The last time this solar-planetary ballet happened was 2006. Mercury's transit of the Sun, that occurs only 13 times in a century as planet Mercury was seen navigating as dot on the solar disc. "You very rarely see how small planets are compared to the sun". Then it won't happen again until 2032.
