The FCMTS was established in 1999 with trains in mind .

Five South Florida train hobby enthusiasts and their wives started the FCMTS (Florida Citrus Model Train Society) in 1999 with Dr. Ken Sargeant serving as the Founding President. The adult group was established to assist the high school students in presenting Toy Train shows with the assistance of the Junior ROTC, South Plantation High School Train Club members, parents, and sponsors.

Ken retired from the Broward County School System after 40 years of service in education on June 1, 2004.

Principal Ken Bass of the City of Pembroke Pines Charter School - Central Campus convinced Ken to sponsor Toy Train shows at his school. Pembroke Pines Charter (Central Campus) is located at 12350 Sheridan Street, Pembroke Pines, FL.

After a short retirement Ken Sargeant was back presenting train shows at a new location. The school is relatively new, has a large cafeteria with restrooms, stage, sound system, plenty of parking,  and an easy location to find. The show hours will be between 9am and 3pm, set up from 7:30 am. Pembroke Pines Police will provide security and custodians will be available. The Athletic Department members under the supervision of Mr. George Holland will handle refreshments. Several parents, teachers, and students along with many FCMTS members will assist with the shows.

Ken received certification to teach Operation Lifesaver, and has presented Safety Programs at several school's (Kindergarten through 8th grade) and has done several presentations at the Boca Express Train Museum. He has continued his Handicapped Kid’s Day at the Broward County Fair. Even though he has retired Ken continues to provide programs for schools, children and the community.
