mission statement

The Florida Citrus Model Train Society has several modular layouts and hosts model train displays for your viewing pleasure. The FCMTS has an emphasis on the entire family especially the younger children. Our goal is to share the traditions and fun of model trains and to provide a reasonable venue for children of all ages to experience the history, traditions and joys of toy trains. We want to develop interest in our hobby and make it available to the general public.

Thursday, November 5, 2015  The Florida Citrus Model Train Society President, Ken Sargeant and members Joe Parisini, Rick Compton met with Patricia Zeiler, Executive Director of the Fort Lauderdale Historical Society, Inc concerning our model train displays in the New River Inn Museum of History "Henry Flagler Room" on the second floor and the rooms on the west side of the third floor for other displays in the future. The Fort Lauderdale Historical Society New River Inn Museum of History will be the "New" Permanent Home of the Florida Citrus Model Train Society.

January 2, 2016 Several visitors and guests standing outside the Multipurpose Room at the Southwest Regional Library. This was the Last Day of participaton   at the Library for our Christmas Holiday Season Model Train Display. We set a new record of 714 guests during our Final Day. The past twenty four days we had a total of 8,008 visitors to view the Florida Citrus Model Train Society Display. We had 46 members attend 368 times providing 1,452 Community Service Hours. Notice the youngsters dressed in engineer and conductor costumes. The adults were dressed in attire representing the "G" Scale Layout which featured a fictitious Florida town called "Seminole Creek" at the turn of the century representing the late 1800's to the low 1900's. The adults were dressed as Tourists, Conductors, Engineers, Firemen, Doctor, Banker, Sheriff, Telegraph Operator, etc. Operation LifeSaver Safety Program was presented and handouts given to the participants.

Oh Lord, now that I have flagged Thee, lift up my feet from the rough road of life and plant them safely on the deck of the train of salvation. Let me use the safety on the deck of the train of salvation. Let me see the safety lamp know as prudence, join all the couplings in the train with the strong arm of love, let my hand lamp be the Bible. Heavenly Father, keep all the switches closed that lead off to the sidings, especially those with the blind end. Oh Lord, if it be Thy pleasure, have semaphore block along the line show the white light of hope that I may make the run of life without stopping. And Lord, give us the Ten Commandments for a schedule and when I've finish on scheduled time and pulled into the dark station of death, may the superintendent of the Universe say, "Well done thou good and faithful servant, come and sign the payroll and receive the check of eternal hapiness."

The Museum Of Discovery & Science, the AUTONATION IMAX THEATER and the Florida Citrus Model Train Society presented a "G" Scale Model Train Layout in the Main Lobby and an "O" Scale Layout on the second floor at the Museum from August 24, 2013 to February 24, 2014.
